


Welcome to the
Wimbledon Windmill Museum
The museum has exhibits for both young and old, covering windmills and milling as well as local history and the Scouting movement. Opened in 1976 on the first floor only, the ground floor was still being used as accommodation for the Wimbledon Common Rangers. However a Heritage Lottery Grant enabled the museum to be extended to both floors in 1999.

At least one hour should be allowed to see all the exhibits.

Watch the Sails go round!
Our iconic windmill sails will be turning at specific weekends for the rest of the year.

We regularly need to turn the Windmill sails to make sure everything is still working and nothing has seized up. At 2pm on both Saturday and Sunday, one of the WPCC Rangers will be up in the roof and releasing the brake so the sails go round! Only for a short time - 30 to 45 mins max, depending on the wind (of course!)
​
Of course we have caveats - if there's no wind then it becomes a manual turning so that will reduce the time we see the sails moving. And if there are any incidents on the common the Ranger will be delayed - but - all things being equal, 2pm is a hopeful guesstimate.

Saturday: 2pm - 5pm
Sunday: 11am - 5pm
Bank Holidays: 11am - 5pm
Admission is free
Donations are at your discretion (but very gratefully received!) and can be provided as cash, card or via this page​​​​
We are always open for pre-arranged Group Tours and School visits during the week.

Find us on Wimbledon and Putney Commons. 1,140 acres of countryside amidst the urban surroundings of Wimbledon, Putney and Kingston-upon-Thames. Run by a charity, the commons are a designated Site of Special Scientific Interest and a Special Area of Conservation.
